CISA recently a joint Cybersecurity Advisory (CSA) regarding the threat actors, Vice Society. Vice Society targets K-12 schools. According to CISA, “Impacts from these attacks have ranged from restricted access to networks and data, delayed exams, canceled school days, and unauthorized access to and theft of personal information regarding students and staff.”

The threat actor group has been known to exploit the PrintNightmare vulnerability to escalate privileges among many other vulnerabilities and tools.

CISA and the FBI provide recommendations for mitigating risk of a successful ransomware attack. These steps include password requirements, proper back-up practices, monitoring, network segmentation, to name a few.
